In partnership with Glasgow City Council (GCC) and Glasgow Life, we worked to address the digital divide and inspire young people in Glasgow to explore the opportunities presented by STEM fields.
Aligned with the Glasgow Economic Strategy, the project sought to equip primary school students with essential digital skills and create a passion for technology.

In partnership with GCC’s Education and Digital Economy departments, SmartSTEMs delivered a series of interactive workshops across 24 primary schools. These workshops focused on practical digital skills, real-world applications, and the integration of technology into the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE).
To enhance student engagement and learning, the project incorporated the following elements:
STEM Role Models: 18 industry professionals from various STEM fields volunteered their time to share their experiences and inspire students.
Teacher Training: 108 teachers received training and resources to support their implementation of digital skills activities in the classroom.
The SmartSTEMs workshops covered a variety of digital skills, including:
Programming Profiles: Combining computer programming with abstract art to teach pupils the basics of coding.
Gifs and Graphs: Exploring the use of digital tools to create and analyse data.
Code Breakers and Code Makers: Introducing ethical hacking, cyber security, and encryption techniques.
Evolving Technologies: Focusing on advancements in technology, such as mobile app development.
A total of 2,797 pupils participated in these workshops, gaining practical experience and developing essential digital skills.
