In a world that’s changing faster than ever, it's vital we give young people the tools and confidence to thrive in it. That’s why we joined forces with Commsworld – one of the UK’s leading telecommunications network providers – to deliver a series of exciting, hands-on STEM workshops for pupils aged 10 to 14.
Together, we’ve been opening doors that too often feel closed. Many young people miss out on opportunities in science, technology, engineering and maths simply because they don’t have access to the right resources, role models or experiences. Our partnership with Commsworld is helping to change that – reaching thousands of pupils across North Lanarkshire and showing them that STEM is not only for ‘someone else’. It’s for them.

Through engaging workshops, live demonstrations and interactive activities, pupils got stuck into real-world challenges and discovered skills that will set them up for the future. From learning how to splice fibre and seeing the magic moment it lights up, to planning a fibre network roll-out around their own school using real maps and even PPE – these experiences made STEM feel relevant, exciting and real.
And it didn’t stop there. Pupils also met with Commsworld team members who shared their own stories – the twists, turns and triumphs of their career journeys. These stories, captured through our #MyJob #MyJourney campaign, now live on as a learning resource for schools and a reminder to young people that there are many routes into a successful STEM career, no matter where you start.
As well as gaining digital know-how, pupils developed key skills like creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving. These are the building blocks of brighter futures – and by embedding them early, we’re helping to close the skills and equity gap that still holds too many back.
Together with Commsworld, we’re not just teaching STEM – we’re growing confidence, sparking curiosity and building a future where every young person feels seen, supported and inspired to aim high.
